Advanced Disposal, an integrated environmental services company, bid farewell Friday to one of their treasured drivers, Tony Barcellona, who retired after 50 years of service.
Barcellona is an icon in Davis Junction, Illinois. His storied career that spans five decades in the waste industry is admirable, and his colleagues tip their hats to him as he hands over the keys to the next generation of professionals.?
Barcellona started his career as a driver with Rockford Disposal in 1964. He would continue driving garbage trucks for the next 50 years, only breaking his driving streak to serve in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1968.
“Tony will be missed by our team. He is a great driver who exemplifies safety and customer service,” said Steven Rooney, Advanced Disposal general manager. “Advanced Disposal wishes Tony and his family another long and happy chapter together and thanks him for 50 years of a job well done!”
In addition to being a valued member of the Advanced Disposal family, Barcellona and his wife have been married for 41 years and raised three children together. In his retirement, he looks forward to picking up extra time with his six grandchildren and driving to and from the best local fishing spots when he isn’t working on cars.?
