Advanced Disposal's Sumrall Recycling Responds to Growing Popularity of Recycling with Efficiency
Advanced Disposal Services, Inc. recently added a new sort line and baler at its Sumrall Recycling facility, located at 1386 Hwy. 42.? The company’s $1.5 million upgrade now allows for 10 tons of material to be sorted hourly, which is up from about 1.5 tons with the original system.?
“The addition is in response to the ever growing popularity of recycling in the greater Pine Belt area,” said Poncho James, Vice President - Corporate Recycling for Advanced Disposal. “Countless municipalities, industries and even colleges and high schools want to recycle now, and we provide an efficient and cost effective means of making that happen.”?
The single-stream recycling mechanism makes it easier to distinguish and process different types of recyclables like plastic and paper. The new machinery began operating in November.? Since then, Sumrall Recycling has begun providing recycling services to the City of Hattiesburg and processes about 60 tons per month of recyclables collected from local schools and Jones County Junior College. Advanced Disposal is also actively pursuing recycling contracts with the University of Southern Mississippi and with the cities of Laurel and Petal.?
“We are well-prepared for the increase in demand for recycling services by constantly monitoring our efficiencies at the facility,” said James.? “The more we can process an hour, the better off we all are because that means more of our valuable resources are being conserved. We’re proud we can be part of that process.”?
When fully-staffed, the sort line requires 14 people to operate. Sumrall Recycling is operating with current volume processed at approximately 675 tons per month.? The facility is available for other third-party haulers in Lamar County and neighboring counties, as well as municipal governments in the surrounding areas, to dispose of their recyclables for processing.? The facility is currently open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please call (601) 758-0378 for more information.
