Advanced Disposal Bag Ladies Recycle 10,000 Bottles and Cans at 26.2 with Donna Marathon
ZTA Sorority Sisters as Bag Ladies Help Race to End Breast Cancer “Go Green”
Advanced Disposal Services Inc. collected and recycled 10,000 plastic bottles and aluminum cans during the 26.2 with Donna Marathon last Sunday in Jacksonville and area beaches. For the third year, Advanced Disposal sponsored the marathon and half-marathon by providing garbage collection and recycling services.
Advanced Disposal partnered with Theta Iota Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of North Florida to be Beautiful Bag Ladies. The sisters were on-hand to promote recycling and support their own ongoing philanthropic cause – to beat breast cancer. Beautiful Bag Ladies were at the post race celebration area to help runners and spectators do their part in “going green” by collecting their recyclables and teaching them about the importance of recycling to keep our community beautiful.
“We joined efforts with the sisters of ZTA because their philanthropic efforts are focused on breast cancer awareness. We soon learned that many of the ladies are also dedicated to preserving the environment, so it was a perfect partnership,” said Mary O’Brien, chief marketing officer for Advanced Disposal. “We strive to leave the world cleaner than we found it, and now, thanks to our Bag Ladies and recycling containers throughout the race course, 10,000 plastic bottles and cans collected will now be diverted from landfills and recycled properly.”
These plastic bottles will be turned into thousands of yards of carpet and even fleece jackets like the ones many of the runners and spectators were wearing Sunday morning to keep warm before the race.
Zeta Tau Alpha sorority sisters participated as Advanced Disposal’s Beautiful Bag Ladies collecting plastic bottles and aluminum cans from race attendees at Sunday’s 26.2 with Donna Marathon.
