Advanced Disposal Begins Mission to Make North Carolina Cleaner and Greener in Huntersville
Advanced Disposal Services, Inc., a regional integrated environmental services company, will begin servicing 15,600 Huntersville, N.C. residents beginning Thursday with garbage, recycling and yard waste collection service. The company hired 12 experienced drivers and purchased seven new trucks to service the Town of Huntersville, which is the company’s first major contract in North Carolina.
Advanced Disposal began distributing new 96-gallon roll-out carts for garbage and yard waste earlier this month. All residents receive three new carts: one gray cart for household waste, collected weekly; one green cart for yard waste, collected weekly; and one blue cart for recyclables, collected every other week. Advanced Disposal contracted with OTTO to produce the carts in part, because the company has a local manufacturing plant, resulting in a considerable tax contribution to Mecklenburg County.
“Our team is working hard to ensure a smooth transition for our Huntersville customers, and a major part of our success is training the employees who we hired to be part of our Advanced Disposal family,” said Gerald Greene, mid-south area president for Advanced Disposal. “All drivers have completed a vigorous training and safety program that included classroom training, practice on an obstacle course, and actually driving their routes prior to the contract start date. Our goal is to keep the neighborhoods and communities of Huntersville clean and green, and this is our way of ensuring the safety of our employees and our neighbors is always the top priority.”
Garbage and yard waste services will be provided as they were, but recycling changes to a single stream method to be collected bi-weekly on resident’s regular pick-up day via the 96-gallon roll-out cart. Changing to single stream means recyclables can be placed within the cart requiring no additional separation by the residents. The materials are separated at the Mecklenburg Recycling Facility after collection, making it easier on the residents to recycle.
“Each member of our local management team has more than 20 years of waste experience in the Charlotte market, so this is our chance to shine in North Carolina. We’re certainly excited about the opportunity to service one of the premier communities in Mecklenburg County,” said Greene. “And we hope the change to the single stream recycling method will make it easier for residents because they no longer have to sort their recyclable items.”
Residents can contact Advanced Disposal’s customer service at (704) 596-9428 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information on single stream recycling and the new items that will be accepted beginning July 1 can also be found by visiting www.wipeoutwaste.com/ReThink.
